Update March 4

I am now 24 days post transplant. I am making progress though from my perspective it is slow. The anti-rejection medications plus the recent stay in the hospital have made me fairly weak. My balance is not all that great. Thus , I need a walker for balance to keep me from falling. Other interesting side effects is the loss of hair (I still have my eyebrows but above the eyebrows and eye lashes). This includes a lack of facial hair. I have not shaved for a week and still have a smooth face. Apparently the Melphalan that was used to fry my bone marrow works best on rapidly growing cells. Thus my head and facial hair plus the target area in the bone marrow are affected. I still have hair on my arms and legs that does not grow so fast. The doctors have expressed they are pleased as they are tracking the results of the Bone Marrow transplant to date.

Getting out of the hospital was interesting as Seattle seems to be in spring time. Tulips and daffodils are up and blossoms are on the tree outside our window. This was the warmest January on record for Seattle and February also was much warmer than average.

  1. Rick, it's so good to hear that everything is working! This has to have been the lostest year for you and Rose! You have certainly gone through some trials, but as you know, when we endure trials, we receive blessings. You both continue to be in my prayers. May God Bless you!

    Hugs!!!

  4. Rick - We have been praying for you and following your blog through the journey to Oz. I will be having heart surgery in Seattle soon, and you have been an inspiration and an encouragement to me whenever I've needed a lift. Your experiences make me feel as though I'm going to have my tonsils removed in comparison. Blessings! Greg A

  6. Love you Rick. Who knows in High School what some of us will face, or who will face it? You were always sort of a cheerleader of the group. Your still doing that.
