7th Inning Stretch ... Or the idea is a stretch?

This post will be on a lighter level. Probably time for that. I must give my Cardiologist plenty of things to laugh about. Back in April, Rose and were one day away from a 10 day trip to Maui, when the Cardiologist wanted to put me into the hospital to pull fluids off. Now I was really over loaded with my feet swelling and skin stretching. Not fun. I asked him if I could start my diuresis in another 10 days, as we were schedule to leave for Maui in the morning. He broke into a big smile and said I was struggling breathing air. What would I be doing to try to breath trough a snorkel in Maui? Also the heat would be very bad for my heart in it's current condition. So we spend our Anniversary at the UW Hospital. The Cardiologists still remembers this request.

Today a dear friend asked if he and his wife could take Rose and I to the Mariner's and Cleveland Indians game in the afternoon. Safeco Field has special arrangements for people in wheelchairs with drop off locations, elevators and seats. Again as I asked my Cardiologist if I could, as a 1-A Exception, go to the game. He smiled and said the day time temperatures are going to be in the 90's; too hard on a heart that is already so compromised. In retrospect, it was wishful thinking. Today I had a hard day and struggled with a simple walk down the hall. So on Saturday, we will be screaming for Ichiro on TV from the Hospital Room on Floor 5. (Without the temptation on a foot long hot dog covered in relish and mustard. And while for most everyone else, this sounds very harmless, the additional sodium would be a huge problem for me).

  2. I really enjoyed my visit with you yesterday Rick. I will get back over, as the situation permits and maybe cover some more ground about the last 40 years and the next 40. As I was telling you, and for the benefit of all that read this and care about your well being, you have a great team caring for you at UWMC. I have worked with the Chief of Cardiac Surgery several years ago. Ed Verrier MD may or may not be participating in your care but he did hand pick your surgeon by selecting him/or her to the Staff. Ed Verrier is brilliant! He selects brilliant people and thus you are well cared for at UWMC. It's as simple as that.
Enjoy the games via TV and rest up for the future. I'll see you soon. Ted B.

  3. I'm sorry today was hard and hope you enjoy the game – even if it's on a TV screen in your room.
I guess I dare not say Go Tribe for this one... :-)
