Stay Open

The NCAA Basketball play offs for 2010 between Butler and Duke was one of the finest college basketball games I have ever seen. Right up to the final buzzer, it was uncertain who would win the championship. The players on each team needed to function as a cohesive unit. Each player needed to be open to how the ball would be defended, how the ball would be passed among team members, etc.

With my health care right now, I need to be flexible and stay open. Last week (March 28-April 3) we were planning on being in Seattle for a scheduled appointment on Thursday (April 8). That has changed. This week (April 4-10) we have been told that Thursday’s appointment is canceled. The new schedule is for appointments on Monday (April 5) and Wednesday (April 7). On both days we will be at both the UW Medical Facility and the SCCA. I also need to get a pick line placed in my arm to receive a certain medication that is applied intravenously. So for us, we need to be flexible and open to the schedule the doctors are calling us for. I am having these additional appointments because of possible infections that are showing up. We are being extra vigilant to stay healthy and limit all interactions with people. The thought is that I picked up these bugs while in the hospital.

Otherwise, both the Cardiology Team and the Bone Marrow Team are very pleased with my progress as I am recovering from both transplants. Most of the issues I am experiencing are being blamed on the interactions between the many drugs I am taking.
