My good friend Jerry is now climbing Mt. Rainier with a friend and his son. Jerry has selected the second most popular route to the summit, through Camp Sherman. This camp was dedicated to Clark Sherman who was a guide on Rainier. He worked for years with the Boy Scouts. After his death, the Scouts worked with the Park Department to construct a permanent shelter that is used by the Park Department as an emergency shelter for injured climbers who are climbing up the Emmons Glacier past Steam Boat Prow and to the summit. Jerry and his friends will spend a night at Camp Sherman in a tent and then ascend to the summit. Jerry has taken me through this route before. It was the only time I have climbed Mt. Rainier through a route other than past Camp Muir. Jerry and his wife have stood by Rose and I through this past year while I have gone through the various transplants and time I have spent in the hospital. Jerry has led several people on this route and the Muir route with patience and care. He makes a great guide. Good luck Jerry!
Now a brief report on my health. Last week I completed my first round of chemotherapy. This week the doctor will determine if he wants to change my chemo dose for the second round of infusions. Otherwise I am feeling better all the time. Life is starting to return to a normal schedule.
Hurray!
